Government of India has initiated a progressive reform process in the agriculture sector. The reforms targeted towards ‘one nation-one market’ as well as on farm infrastructure development will create a conducive ecosystem for the growth of agriculture and food sector.
Focus on agriculture is a must, given that the sector is the mainstay of Indian economy and supports majority of population in terms of their livelihood. With efficient marketing connect as well as value addition at the right stage, the sector can grow manifold, reduce post-harvest wastages and increase farmers’ income substantially.
Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call for Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat is a progressive concept where India not only can become self-reliant but can also play an enhanced role in the global supply chain. The fact that Agriculture is one of the few sectors that have shown resilience during the COVID19 pandemic resonates the potential the sector has in supporting rural livelihoods. The pandemic has also helped identify new opportunities for India as a global supplier of food in the medium to long term].

This virtual exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for artists, weavers, micro-entrepreneurs including women SHGs, clusters and village industries to showcase khadi and handloom products such as sarees, fabric material, shawls, stoles, dress material, mats, rugs, carpets along with home furnishing and other accessories from several states in India and overseas. Furthermore, exhibitors can also participate in matchmaking B2B and B2C meetings, export oriented training programmes and workshops. Over 100 global buyers are expected to join this month-long festival. Handloom is an age old and timeless art of creating a beautiful fabric that represent diverse cultural and historical lineage of a particular geography. Each fabric is a reflection of customs, mythology and artist’s emotions. From simple plain fabrics, tribal motifs, geometric designs, colourful dyes to an exhaustive art, each piece is unique and unparallel in itself. The handloom textile products with their meaningful designs and patterns remain unmatched in their distinctive blend of timelessness and innovativeness. It is the beautiful celebration of colours & weaves and the splendour of art & techniques. Handloom sector employs millions of people. The pandemic has severely paralysed their ability to produce, market, exhibit and sell handloom products. The resultant crash in business has serious consequences on the survival of these artists, weavers and their ancient techniques. The Handloom Festival aims at helping artisans and weavers, showcase their handcrafted products and support ‘vocal for local’. This online platform will promote khadi and handloom products to the global audience by redefining tradition and style. For more information please visit www.worldtradeexpo.org
